Brace-hero Were opens account as Zesco falls short of victory

Jesse Were  bagged a brace as Zesco United came just short of a priceless victory in a 2-2 draw against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League fifth rounds clash played on Friday 12 August in Egpyt's Suez Stadium.

The Kenya striker opened his account on the continental front  just five minutes in nodding down a Jackson Mwanza cross low past Ahmed Adel near post.

Masterpiece  goal

A suspect  defense of a set piece ball however saw Al Ahly pull leveled  through Rami Rabia  before Were’s sublimely turned  a defender inside out and  smashing low in to the far post saw the visitor reclaim their lead five minutes later .

The attacker would also prove pivotal on the defensive duties helping out in back line that consisted of compatriot David Owino with a 77th minute goal-line clearance.

Top of Group

But just when it seemed ending on their favour,  substitute Emad Meteb’s well struck bicycle kick came off  Owino and past Jacob Banda  to settle the tie with five minutes remaining .

The win would however saw Zesco claim a one point  lead of the group ahead of Wydad who play Asec in Sunday clash.
