Zesco United eased past Power Dynamos on Thursday 30 March 2017 at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe thanks to three goals from Kenyan internationals Jesse Were and David Owino and an own goal from the opponents to make it a 4-2 win in the Charity Shield Cup semi-finals.
The game kicked off with Zesco United getting an early injury scare when Jackson Mwanza was taken off the pitch to get medical attention after a bad tackle from the opponent side. The injury late saw him unable to continue with the game with Zlatko Krmpotic being forced to make an early change with Idris being called off the bench.
A corner was given to Dynamos but failed to materialize as Kenyan international gave the side a deserving lead two minutes later. The game was later briefly halted as Dynamos keeper collided with a player. Zesco United would display its dominance, this time David Owino finding the target with a well-taken shot after a connecting a pass from John Chingandu with the third goal coming minutes later from an own goal from Billy Mutale before the opponents pulled one back as the centre referee blew the half time whistle.
Zesco clearly displayed the intent of winning the game in the second half and it it did not take long before Were got at it again for his second for the day after Idriss Mbombo fed him from the left flank before Mwape Mwelwa was introduced replacing Dave Daka. With time counting down Dynamos managed to get another goal to keep the hosts close. There was another scare for Zesco after Mbombo limped off the pitch forcing the coach to bring in Patrick Kongolo. With the game coming to a close, coach Zlatko Krmpotic was given matching orders with the game ending in favor of Zesco united.
