AFC Leopards stormed into the last eight of the shield after a 2-1 win over Bidco United in round of 16 tie staged at Thika Stadium on Wednesday 26 July.
The Big Cats were the first ones to knock at Bidco's door. Samuel Ndungu made an attempt from the left wing but his shot brushed off the bar. Alexis Kitenge and Duncan Otieno also tried their luck but their shots also went over the bar.
Leopards managed to break Bidco defence at the 12th minute. Harun Nyaka chipped the ball from the midfield and found Ndungu on the right side of the box, the former Muhoroni Youth winger curved a shot that found the bottom left corner of the net.
Former Kakamega Homeboyz attacker Augustine Etemesi tested Gabriel Andika in Leopards with a shot from the right wing but the keeper stopped the shot.
Oyuga Lambert was the second player to make a serious attempt at Leopards goal and his effort from the left wing forced Andika to punch the ball back to play. Robinson Kamura was standby and he ensured the homeside did not utilize the opportunity.
Leopards would have doubled the lead after a mix up between Bidco keeper and his defenders. Whyvonne Isuza tried to sent the ball in the net but his shot deflected off Collins Marita for a corner. As the halftime break came, Ndungu's goal was the only difference.
The tempo of the game lowered at the start of second but the homeside Bidco had their share of chances. They called Andika into action on two ocassion before David Juma missed a sitter.
Far from over
In the 54th minute Kitenge was brought down at the edge of the box. Kamura curled the free kick but Okeyo Charles punched the ball to deny him. Okaka Aziz tried to put the rebound ball in the net but his shot flew high in the sky.
Ingwe finally got their second goal at the 69th minute, Okaka's low cross found subsitute Kerizon kizito who sent the ball past Okeyo.
Skies opened in final 10 minutes and Bidco used the period to pull one goal back through Juma, just as the final whistle approached. The side got more belief of adding another goal but a miss before the final whistle dent their hopes.
AFC Leopards will now face Wazito FC in the round of eight of the competition.
