Former Kenyan International midfielder Mcdonald Mariga has revealed that he joined Spanish side Real Oviedo because he feels it is a great club.
The experienced Mariga was officially unveiled on Tuesday 1 August after signing a one year deal at Oviedo. He held his first training session where he trained alone and is expected to start gelling into the rest of the team.
The former Inter Milan man says that he clearly understands Spanish football and is confident that he will succeed and impress since this will be the second time that he will be playing in the country.
-I chose Real Oviedo because it is a great club in Spain, everyone knows it. That's why I joined this it. Spanish football is very technical and less physical and this is in one of the best leagues in the world. For me it is not a challenge, I played here before and I know it will succeed, he stated.
The midfielder says he has already started adapting to life at Oviedo even though he is yet to join his new teammates. According to him there will be pressure to impress at his new home but he feels it is part of the football journey.
-Although I have not trained yet with the team, I am adapting. In every club there is pressure and every player also has it, with its challenges.It is important to play, work and conquer.
-As a footballer, the objective is to improve. As a team it is to fight, to strive and to be able to achieve the goal. That decides, he concluded.
Mariga had been a free agent ever since leaving Us Latina which was relegated from Serie B. He played for Spanish side Real Sociedad after Inter Milan opted to loan him out 2011/2012.
