Finland Premier League defending champions Mariehamn bounced back to winning ways courtesy of an Amos Ekhalie goal securing a 2-1 win over KuPS in a league match played at Wiklof Holding Arena on Monday 14 August.
Mariehamn was winless in the last eight matches in all competitions (with 3-0 and 6-0 champions league loss to Legia Warzaw included)and needed victory after a long drought.
Sid and Ekhalie goals
Their urge to return to winning ways received a shot in the arm after Robin Sid netted their first goal at the 26th and took his tally of goals to three this season.
Two minutes after the hour's mark Kenyan midfielder Amos Ekhalie netted the second goal that turned out to be important for the team. Their opponents pulled one goal in the dying minutes of the clash but it was too late for them to make a comeback.
Ekhalie has hit two goals this season while Mariehamn climbs one place up to position seven on the league standings. They had dropped to eighth after the winless streak.
Their next league assignment will see them face KuPs once again and they will be hoping to complete a double.
