Juventus are reportedly the latest top-tier side to disclose their interest in acquiring Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman, who has already handed in a formal transfer request to his current club, is desperate to make a move away from the St Mary’s Stadium on account of the frustrations the English side has subjected him to since he made it known that he wants to leave.
League rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with the 26-year-old, but Southampton are adamant that they won’t be “bullied” into releasing Van Dijk and are thus yet to cave to any of the numerous bids that have been launched for the defensive specialist.
On the other hand, Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri is in the market for a replacement for former centre-back Leonardo Bonucci, who left the Serie A champions for perennial rivals AC Milan, making Van Dijk a viable option since the two are alike in that both have the reputation of being vocal leaders who anchor their teams defensively.
