The Gunners have reportedly made progress in their attempt to acquire Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
Sources claim that the wantaway defender met Arsenal chiefs on Thursday to discuss a potential move after refusing to change his stance on leaving St Mary’s Stadium before the transfer window closes.
Van Dijk had for a long time been linked with a move to Liverpool, but the Reds were forced to take a step back after the Saints accused the Reds of illegally tapping-up the Dutchman. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has also identified the 26-year-old as a key target to further bolster his defense.
Though the intricate details of the meeting have not been made public, Wenger will have to cough up at least £50m to land the defensive specialist as Southampton are highly unlikely to let go of the linchpin for a lesser fee.
