Ghanaian forward Stephen Owusu came off the bench to score the winner eight minutes from time as Tusker FC saw off Zoo FC 2-1 in a Kenyan Premier League match played at Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday 13 September.
After a goalless first half, Tusker took the lead in the 52nd minute through Humphrey Mieno. Substitute Kepha Ondati drew Zoo level in the 73rd minute before Owusu bagged the winner for the Brewers.
The first stanza was largely balanced as both teams created a number of chances which they failed to convert. Paul Okatwa was denied by Zoo keeper Samwel Koko in the 5th minute while Geoffrey Gichana saw his shot from a Mike Madoya cut back in the 6th minute go over. Nicholas Kipkirui too came close.
Okello was called into action at the hour mark parrying away Mike Madoya's ferocious shot from the edge of the area. At the other end Boniface Muchiri saw his low shot saved by Koko while Allan Wanga's header went over the bar arts connecting to a Muchiri corner. The first stanza ended goalless.
Tusker showed more urgency and seven minutes after the restart they took the lead through assistant captain Humphrey Mieno. The midfielder controlled a Boniface Muchiri cross from the left flank before during past an exposed Koko.Eugene Asike nearly doubled their lead two minutes later but Koko did well to parry his well floated free-kick over the bar for a corner.
The match was a balanced affair after the goal as both teams looked for goals.
Out of the run of play, Zoo equalized through substitute Kepha Ondati. The midfielder controlled a split pass from midfield before firing into an empty net with Okello out of his goal area.
Eight minutes from time, Stephen Owusu bagged the winner connecting to a Michael Khamati cross from the right flank.
