Double trouble for Harambee Stars midfielder, ‘Maapake’

Harambee Stars and Sweden based midfielder Eric Johanna suffered a troublesome outing with his Division One club Vasaland IF against Akropolis IF going down by a heavy 4-0 on October 8, 2017 at the Skytteholms IP Stadium.

The loss, in which Johanna was booked, came just a day after the club recalled him from national duty with Harambee Stars in Iraq where they lost to the hosts, locking him out of the second friendly against Thailand on Sunday 8 September evening.

The loss was an additional blow to the side which had requested that Johanna be relieved off his national duties as the Europe club looked to register an elusive win after just one in six fixtures. The other four having resulted in losses.

This was not entirely a shock though as their opponents boast of a completely impressing record having lost only lost one and won five of their last outings. Vasaland has 22 points from 22 league assignments while the second placed Akropolis has 47 points from a similar number of matches.

The former Mathare United playmaker ditched the Slum Boys along with other rival KPL sides opting instead for his debut pro-deal in Sweden. The attacking midfielder has been among the stand-out players in Stars' recent resurgent under coach Stanley Okumbi.

He bagged his debut national team goal against in an AFCON qualifier against Congo before scoring another goal in a friendly tie against Mozambique.
