Mathare downs relegated Muhoroni

2008 Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United kept their survival dream alive after beating relegated Muhoroni 2-1 in a Kenya Premier League staged on Saturday 11 November at the Ruaraka Grounds.

The last 11 matches between this two side had seen them share three wins each while five clashes had ended in draws. A win would be more important for Mathare United who are seeking to remain in top-flight football.

Unbeaten Vs winless

Coming to this match, the Slum Boys were enjoying an unbeaten run in their last six matches. For Muhoroni youth their struggles had gotten worse as they had lost four of the last six. In the last three matches they had conceded 16 goals.

The wet surface saw two sides use the slow approach. Mathare United had unsuccessful attempts through Roy Okal, Chris Ochieng while Bliss Kityo, on the other hand, failed to make a clear-cut chance count.

Just before the halftime break, the host managed to break Muho's defence. Cliff Nyakeya picked midfielder Edwin Seda who sent a low shot past Said Juma for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes into the final half, Mathare United conceded. Maxwel Onyango took advantage of a goal melee and netted Muhoroni equalizer.

Nyakeya restored Mathare's lead after John Mwangi set him up from the left wing at the 56th minute of the clash. The Slum Boys have moved to 38 points after the win. Muhoroni has now lost the last four in a row.
