Vihiga edge Palos to restore tight proceedings at NSL summit

Patrick Okullo's penalty goal was all Vihiga United needed to grind out a crucial narrow win at Palos, the victory sending the visitors back to second in the NSL standings.

The long-standing rivalry between the pair wasted no time in showing up as the encounter in Moi stadium Kisumu kicked off.

Promotion hopefuls Vihiga had all to play for in the clash but none of Rashid Kyambadde and pacey Godfrey Airo could muster an early goal to settle the nerves until the 67th minute.

A controversial call by Caroline Wanjala after Charles Okwemba went down in the area handed host the perfect chance to storm the lead.

The call, however, did not sit well with the fans and home team, who protested the decision to no avail and Okullo duly converted from the spot to break the deadlock.

Hesbon Nyabinge's charges had a late effort to salvage a draw but substitute Benedict Jacobs failed to find his mark from a tight angle.
