Vihiga United assistant coach Francis Xavier has heaped praise on his players, management and fans after sealing promotion to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) with a 1-0 win over Ushuru FC on Saturday 25 November.
A Bernard Ochieng first-half strike is all Vihiga needed to down the tax-men and in the process finished top in the National Super League (NSL). Vihiga and Wazito sealed promotion to KPL.
Speaking to Futaa.com, Xavier praised his players, supporters and the management for the support they accorded the team throughout the season.
-I want to thank my players, they showed strong character to beat Ushuru, a very experienced side and that shows we are mentally strong. I also want to thank our supporters for rallying behind the team throughout the season, their support has yielded fruits. The management too played its part, they ensured that we got everything we needed to make our season a success and I want to thank them very much, with their continued support, we will get better in KPL, Xavier told Futaa.com.
Vihiga finished the season with 80 points same as second-placed Wazito who have an inferior goal-difference. Ushuru finished third and will face off with Thika United in a play-off clash.
