- Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is the best in the world, but Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois runs him close, former Man United and England striker Michael Owen thinks.
De Gea’s match-winning performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal last Saturday has got people discussing whether the Spaniard is the best between the sticks.
He made 14 saves at the Emirates, the joint-highest amount since Premier League records began.
But Owen is also a big fan of Chelsea star Courtois, who has already played over 300 career matches at 25 years of age.
Owen believes the Belgium international has a better physique than De Gea, standing two inches taller than the Manchester United No 1.
However, he says De Gea edges him out when it comes to shot-stopping and with the ball at his feet.
-At 25, to play that many games as a goalkeeper, just shows what mentality he’s got, Owen said of Courtois.
-He has got great attributes, he is one of the leading goalkeepers in the world. Is he the best? I still think David De Gea. I think he’s a slightly better shot-stopper, De Gea, and I think he’s better with his feet, he has better distribution. Where I think Courtois has probably got a better shape, stature, size. But I would just give it to De Gea at the moment.
Settled! David De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world!
