Tanzania Premier League bigwigs, Azam FC, take on Uganda Revenue Authority in the finals of this year’s Mapinduzi Cup on Friday night at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
Both sides share a piece of the prestigious prize for the last two editions; Azam is the defending champions after dethroning the Ugandans last January.
The two faced off in the group stages where the tax collectors emerged victors with a 1-0 win courtesy of Nicholas Kagaba’s first-half goal.
URA knocked out Simba after the last match of the group stages and went eliminate another Tanzania Premier League giant, Yanga in the semifinals.
Azam on the other side finished second in the groups behind URA before beating Singida United 1-0 courtesy of Shaaban Idd Chilumba’s lone strike.
The striker knows very well URA’s capabilities and has cautioned his mates to be clinical in the final.
- It will be a tough match that deserves maximum attention because they beat us in the group stage. They’re not an easy side to play against but I believe our coach has prepared us well enough for the encounter, Idd said.
The match will kick off at 8 pm Ugandan time.
