Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has revealed the inspiration behind his successful 2017 season.
Matasi who helped the national team win it's record seventh CECAFA title was also named the 2017 Goalkeeper of the Year after a good season with Posta Rangers. In an interview with the official KPL portal, the custodian has now admitted his family's hand as the catalyst to his success.
“My family pushes me to work hard, especially my wife and young son. My mother as well motivates me a lot. She wasn’t happy when I left AFC Leopards but she is really glad now that it worked out well for me,” he told KPL's official site.
He further noted that a change in lifestyle and working extra hours helped propel him to a successful season.
“I changed my lifestyle in 2016 and really focused on improving myself as a goalkeeper by doing extra training in the gym and having enough rest. I upped the tempo in 2017 and it paid off. The climax of it all was performing well with the National team during the CECAFA tournament and I am very optimistic that I will even do better in 2018,” he was quoted.
Matasi's successful season saw him attract interest from Europe where he was scheduled to attend trials earlier in the year.
