It’s been a January transfer window extraordinaire. Already big names have made big money moves with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Virgil van Dijk and Philippe Coutinho leading the pack. The big question is; who else will be following them this January?
Ahead of the transfer deadline day, we look at the top 10 deals likely to be sealed by tomorrow midnight.
Lucas Moura to Tottenham?
Tottenham has agreed on a fee in the region of £25m with Paris St-Germain for Brazilian winger Lucas Moura. The deal is subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed. Lucas, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, has met Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy and is keen to join the Premier League club.
Lucas joined PSG for £33.5m from Sao Paulo in 2013 but has made just six substitute appearances this season.
The midfielder has played 35 times for his country and won a silver medal at the London Olympics in 2012. Since arriving in Ligue 1, he has scored 46 goals and contributed 50 assists in 229 appearances. He has won 13 domestic trophies in France, including four league titles, most recently in 2016.
Thomas Lemar to Liverpool?
The France international has been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield following Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona earlier this month. The 22-year-old was reportedly rested for his side’s midweek cup defeat to Lyon in order to be fresh for Sunday’s crucial Ligue 1 clash.Monaco’s website lists Lemar as being out with a bruised thigh.
Lemar’s absence from the squad has sparked rumours that the winger is set to sign for Liverpool before Wednesday’s deadline. Coutinho was ruled out with a similar injury for two games before finalising his move to the Nou Camp and fans are convinced Lemar’s thigh problem is a smokescreen, considering the importance of the Marseille match.
Jonjo Shelvey to West Ham?
West Ham will step up their chase for Jonjo Shelvey now Newcastle has clinched a deal to sign Kenedy. The Hammers made an enquiry for Shelvey earlier this month but were given the brush-off by Newcastle because they didn't have enough strength in depth in their squad. Rafa Benitez has now agreed on a loan deal for the rest of the season with Chelsea for their Brazilian youngster Kenedy.
The Hammers believe that will allow Benitez to sanction the sale of England international Shelvey before the transfer window closes. West Ham manager David Moyes has earmarked midfield as the area in his squad that needs strengthening this month.
Shelvey was David Moyes’ first choices along with Stoke's Joe Allen, but early moves for both failed to bring any success.
Troy Deeney to West Brom?
The Baggies have again been linked with the Watford striker this month who was a target for former boss Tony Pulis - and reports are now suggesting that a bid of as much as £18m is being lined up. Deeney, the Hornets captain, has scored only twice this season. He was left out of the side's 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Albion is reportedly ready to try for Deeney before the closing of the window if they’re able to fund it through player sales.
Aubameyang to Arsenal?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is closing on a switch from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal as Arsene Wenger looks to boost his forward options, reports in Germany and Britain said on Monday. German magazine Kicker reported the clubs had agreed on a 63-million-euro ($78 million, £55 million) fee for the player and that as part of the deal Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud could move to Germany on loan until the end of the season.
The BBC also reported that the move was close, quoting a figure of £60 million but said the deal would not go through until the German club had a replacement lined up. The Bundesliga club turned down a bid of 50 million euros from Arsenal last week, the BBC reported.
Gabon international Aubameyang, 28, played for Dortmund in their 2-2 draw against Freiburg on Saturday but did not score. Aubameyang was jeered by his own fans on Saturday and has been told he can leave Dortmund if Arsenal met the asking price, the German club's sports director Michael Zorc confirmed.
Slimani to Monaco?
Leicester City is in talks with Monaco over a loan move for Islam Slimani but would also sell him to a Premier League club for £20 million, according to reports. Leicester is understood to be open to letting their record signing leave during this transfer window with manager Claude Puel admitting he has too many strikers at the club. Leicester is reported by the Daily Mail to be close to an agreement with Monaco for Slimani, with City asking for a £2.6m loan fee – twice the initial offer from the French club.
Benik Afobe to Wolves?
Wolves have launched a bid to bring former striker Benik Afobe back to the club on loan. The 24-year-old scored 23 goals in a year at Molineux and is currently down the pecking order at Premier League side Bournemouth. However, they may face frustration with the two clubs currently at an impasse. Bournemouth wants to either sell Afobe or loan him out with a view to a permanent deal. It's understood that Wolves only want Afobe on a one-off loan deal and aren't prepared to commit to a long-term transfer.
Edin Dzeko to Chelsea?
Chelsea remains hopeful of landing a deal for Roma striker Edin Dzeko but are now looking at Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente as alternatives, Goal understands. The Blues have been after Dzeko for much of the winter window, but talks have stalled for now as all three parties have been unable to come to any agreements. Dzeko was seen as likely to be added this January alongside team-mate Emerson Palmieri, but for now, the striker remains in Italy despite being keen on a move to Stamford Bridge while Emerson will undergo a medical ahead of a £17.5 million move.
Aymeric Laporte to Manchester City?
Manchester City will complete a deal for Aymeric Laporte in the next 48 hours. Spanish TV claim to have filmed a Blues representative showing up at La Liga offices in Madrid today to affect the triggering of the player's buy-out clause, but that is unconfirmed.
However, the Blues are less confident of striking a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred in this transfer window, with the deadline set for 11 pm on Wednesday night. Ideally, City wants all business done before the team runs out to face West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium, on deadline day.
Emerson Palmieri to Chelsea?
Emerson Palmieri will fly to the UK on Tuesday to undergo a medical with Chelsea - but the Blues will not be signing his Roma team-mate Edin Dzeko.
Sky Sports in Italy reported the clubs have agreed on a deal of £17.6million plus £7m in add-ons for the left-back to move to Stamford Bridge. Palmieri leaves Italy on Tuesday and will undergo a medical in London ahead of the move.
