Pierre Aubameyang-Emerick has finally joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund on a long-term contract for a club-record fee of £56m .
Arsenal's second signing of the January transfer window is one of the world’s most highly-rated strikers. He scored 98 goals in 144 Bundesliga games for Dortmund and had a hand in 172 goals in 213 matches in all competitions for his former club. Auba is the Gabon captain and all-time top goalscorer, and became the first Gabonese winner of the African Footballer of the Year award in 2015.
The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes and Auba’s squad number will be confirmed shortly.
Arsenal’s move for Aubameyang was completed after the forward passed a medical and concluded the finer details of a club-record deal at London Colney. The transfer has been driven by Arsenal’s new head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, who previously worked for Dortmund. He had been instrumental in taking Aubameyang to the Bundesliga from Saint-Étienne and, with the player having made clear he was keen on the move, discussions progressed over the past fortnight.
Aubameyang has scored 100 goals for Dortmund since the start of the 2015-16 season, 45 more than any player has scored for Arsenal in the same period.
