Riyad Mahrez has threatened to never play for Leicester City again.
The Leicester forward handed in a transfer request on 30th January, less than 36 hours before the close of the transfer window. Manchester City is believed to have made a bid, which was rejected by the Foxes. No one wants to sell their best player mid-season, anyway.
Who has done this before?
Mahrez can be said to have pulled a Payet. Remember when the former West Ham man handed in a transfer and when the club said they don’t want to sell him he decided he would rather not play? This might be what Mahrez is doing. Payet was however sold later. So, he won? Maybe.
The Mirror and the Daily Star report that a friend of the Algerian has told the media Mahrez is depressed and does not understand why Leicester is doing this to him. “Riyad is very depressed this evening over the events of the last two days. He doesn't understand why Leicester have behaved in the way they have. This is the fourth transfer window in which Leicester have said they will allow him to leave. He feels very strongly that he has done everything in his powers for the club,” the friend said.
Algeria is not playing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup so Mahrez probably does not mind sitting out and being mad at management.
