Is Mahrez football's 'biggest baby' ?

More often than not, an adult who whines all the time he does not get his way is called a 'big baby'. Riyad Mahrez is bidding to become football's biggest modern day baby.

A week after the closure of the January transfer deadline and Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is reportedly still absent from training. With Leicester rejecting advances from Manchester City and valuing the player higher than they did, the Telegraph are one of many to report that it's believed that a number of club staff are unsure as to where he even is as he goes for a world record sulk.

Games missed

With the Algerian international stropping off, he missed the draw with Swansea City. Prior to that, he had missed Everton and he's not expected to return to face Manchester City this weekend either.

The history is well known after winning the Premier League, he was happy to sign a new bumper contract, he was happy to enjoy Champions League football and then there was the apparent 'promise' of a move after that. A promise that didn't include a set fee release clause in his new deal and that's a safe assumption as bids for Mahrez continued to rise (as did his valuation) and nothing was triggered.

Maybe Mahrez should be looking closer to home and his agent for where the blame lies here?

The Telegraph say that 'sources close to' him have suggested the 26 year old is 'unlikely' to return for the remainder of the week but Leicester continue to try and calm things with Claude Puel saying all the right words and nobody will in fact either confirm or deny whether his absence so far had been sanctioned and his time away from Belvoir was with permission to get his head straight, although Puel had suggested there was some time allowed 'to clear his head' the other week.

With talk of the Professional Footballers' Association being brought in to help mediate and claims of 'depression', where this sorry state of affairs ends is anyone's guess but whilst honoring the contract you signed seems an alien concept in football for many, Mahrez is seriously at risk of ruining his status among fans and establishing a new reputation among football.
