Ingwe celebrated their 54th birthday in style! AFC Leopards came back from behind twice to hand Mathare United their first loss of the season in a season thriller in Machakos.
The game started with a lot of intensity with both sides looking to score first. It took the slum boys 9 minutes to bag the game’s first goal. Cliff Nyakeya dispossessed Maingi and raced to finish cleverly past Adira.
Both sides intensified their tempo after that first goal and in just ten minutes, AFC cancelled out Mathare’s lead with a brilliant shot from Brian Marita resulting from a Marvin Nabwire pass. The game was now open with both sides equally attacking.
The deadlock was broken after an hour gone. Isaac Oduro brought down Cliff Nyakeya in the box and the slum boys were awarded a penalty. Francis Omondi comfortably converted the penalty restoring Mathare’s lead.
AFC Leopards immediately got a chance to get back into the game with a free kick awarded. Oduro took it but was only able to drive the ball wide.
That chance proved detrimental as two minutes later, Cliff Nyakeya got his second goal. Mathare looked home and dry as the lead was convincing. However, The Leopards were not done. Duncan Otieno scored a brilliant goal from outside the box in the 38th minute mounting pressure on the Slum Boys.
Just a few seconds to half time, David Owino stretchered off the pitch with what looked like a serious injury. Oguttu replaced him.
Mathare United started the second half defensively but this gave Ingwe a great chance to move forward. In the 54th minute, Baker Lukooya replaced Brian Marita. AFC Leopard's efforts bore fruits as Ezekiel Odera was able to get a goal.
It was Marvin Omondi's screamer that proved to be the decider as he scored a goal that qualifies for goal of the season. AFC Leopards had made their second comeback of the game and with less than ten minutes to go, Mathare United had an uphill task restoring their lead.
Isaac Oduro was booked for the second time because of time wasting. He was sent off with only 4 minutes left to the final whistle.
