Yes, the fine run continues for Gor Mahia, six games unbeaten and in this case very important given the massive change made in the matchday squad. Unlucky Nzoia fought bravely but were unlucky to concede though with a slim margin, 1-0.
Ephraim Guikan had the best opportunity to score his second league goal when he connected well with a throw-in from left back Wesley Onguso but his shot hit the box and rocketed back into play. Gor Mahia, despite massive changes to the starting line up, showed composure, brilliant ball control and confidence against a wobbly Nzoia who were yet to settle.
Guikan was not fast enough to collect a pass from the Joachim Oluoch who teed the Ivorian inside the box only for Benson Mangala to collect it. Guikan roamed freely in Nzoia half almost left unmarked on numerous occasions and in some instances finding himself offside as the visitors back line looked lost in the first fifteen minutes.
A nervous few minutes inside the Nzoia area with two quick corners meant Gor Mahia were unable to utilize the pressure on the opponents. Charles Momayi headed away from the first corner before Mangala parried away the second one and went down injured.
Boniface Omondi delivered the killer pass in the 43rd minute which was tapped in by the captain of the day Kevin Ade Omondi. The opener seemed to have awoken Nzoia who tried to pile pressure on Gor by attacking from the left and right flanks, they were unlucky though.
An improved Nzoia came in the second half and showed some class in possession, control, and distribution at some point Brian Otieno attempted to test Shaban Odhoji in goal but his long-range shot went out wide. Nzoia though survived when Oluoch's cross into the area found Festus Okiring who hit the bar trying to clear the ball. Unlucky Guikan was frustrated again when his goal-bound shot was cleared by Vincent Ngesa after he had rounded off on coming Mangala.
Otieno Patrick came on to lead the attacks for the Millers and was almost rewarded when he beat every defender in sight but finally hit the bar. On the other hand Onguso was forced to retake his penalty after the first one ruled out due to Gor player encroachment. Though he scored in the first trial, the second was saved by Mangala and the national left right back could not score his second league goal.
