Mathare United will not be featuring in the KPL Top 8 Cup in 2015 by virtue of having finished outside the top half in the 2014 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and the team’s skipper Vincent Okello terms it very painful.
Mathare United should have secured a slot on the final day of the 2014 season but a barren draw with relegated Nairobi City Stars coupled with Muhoroni Youth FC’s win over Western Stima complicated things for the 2008 KPL champions and the skipper says they failed to realize their pre season aim.
Make it right
Okello was suspended for the final match of the season and he says it was very painful watching his team mates battle it out for the slot unsuccessfully though he says they will fight to make it right in 2015.
-It was bad, so painful, because that was our target. The coach had it as his aim for the team at the start of the season and as the captain I am so hurt that we missed out. I missed the last match on suspension and it was even more painful to be out as my team mates fought for the slot.
-However, not all is lost; we can
still make it right in 2015, he told futaa.com.
Mathare United finished tenth in the season.
