Tanzania: Four teams relegated for match-fixing
GEITA Gold faced the fury of Tanzania Football Federation [ TFF] after their hopes of playing in the Premier League next season were blown away in the wind as the team together with Polisi Tabora and JKT Oljoro were relegated to the second division for match-fixing, Tanzania Daily reports.
The teams which are all from Group C, were found blameworthy of match fixing committed in their final group's games in which Polisi Tabora thumped JKT Oljoro 7-0 as Geita Gold thrashed JKT Kanembwa 8-0 on the same day.
TFF's disciplinary committee also further relegated JKT Kanembwa to a regional level league (RCL) effective from next season. However, the penalized teams were free to appeal the judgment, according to the committee. The committee was forced to lower further JKT Kanembwa because they were bottom-placed in their group; hence they were on the way to relegation. The committee has also slapped referee Saleh Mang'ola; who was in charge of the match between JKT Kanembwa and Geita Gold with a life ban after being caught up in the match-fixing disgrace.
Assistant coach guilty
In its investigation, the committee also found Geita Gold's assistant coach, Choke Abeid guilty and just like the referee, he was also handed a life ban. Geita Gold's shotstopper Dennis Richard and Mohamed Mohamed of JKT Kanembwa were both banned from football activities for10 years along together with a 10 million each- fine for their part in the scandal.
According to the committee's statement however, the chairman of Geita Regional Football Association (GEREFA), Salum Kurunge, Geita Gold club chairman, Constantine Moladi and JKT Kanembwa's secretary, Basil Matei all escaped the ban and penalty but it extended the life ban to the chairman of Tabora Regional Football Association, Yusuf Kitumbo and his association's secretary, Fateh Remtullah, JKT Oljoro Chairman, Amos Mwita and Tabora Polisi's assistant coach.
As a result of the fines imposed on the guilty party, TFF will later announce teams that will gain promotion into the premiership berth next season expected to kick off in August or September.
