Germany face Cameroon in a thriller on Sunday in what many are calling a David versus Goliath match. Joachim Low’s men need only a draw to book their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA Confederations Cup whereas Hugo Broos’ squad needs to find the back of the net at least two times to stay alive.

The odds are heavily against Cameroon as the African Champions are yet to win a match and face opponents who happen to be the reigning defending World Cup holders. The following are the teams’ forms over their last six outings:

Germany - D W W D W W

Cameroon - D L L W L W

This is likely to be a fast-paced match which will boil down to how well both sides can defend against their opponents. Cameroon showed signs of life in their recent 1-1 draw against Australia, and although the Indomitable Lions were the better side, the match exposed deficiencies on the offensive end, which were highlighted by forward Vincent Aboubakar’s inability to convert.

On the other hand, Germany have not lost against an African country since the early 1980s, and though their current squad features relatively unfamiliar faces, the team has emerged as one of the favourites to win the competition fuelled by the heroics of forward Lars Stindl, who scored two goals in their last two matches.

It would be premature to attempt to name squads for this match as Germany boss Joachim Low has hinted at making at least five changes to his current squad in order to cope with their physically gifted opponents, which only implies that Cameroon chief Hugo Broos may do the same.

Prediction: This one is a no-brainer, the obvious pick is Germany. Au revoir Cameroon!
