Can Coutinho be replaced?
Liverpool may have insisted last week that Philippe Coutinho wasn’t for sale, but speculation is really hotting up that the Brazilian is heading to Barcelona in what would be one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer.
It has been claimed that the 25-year-old has agreed terms with the Catalan giants, who have apparently been in London for talks over a world-record-equalling £89 million move.
A number of names have been linked with the club in recent times, so here’s a look at some of the more realistic targets who could be ideal for Liverpool if Coutinho ends up at the Nou Camp…
With ten goals and three assists in 38 games last season, 21-year-old attacking midfielder Marco Asensio made a big impression at Real Madrid and has attracted rumoured interest from Liverpool in recent months.
Linked mainly with Arsenal and Roma this summer, Riyad Mahrez has made it known he wants to leave Leicester City, and Liverpool have been among his mentioned admirers.
Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain
Believed to be one of Liverpool’s top targets this summer, Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is refusing to sign a new contract and could be available on the cheap due to his contract being up in a year’s time.
The France international was outstanding for Monaco last season with 14 goals and 14 assists, and would surely feel he could snub Arsenal if a club playing in the Champions League came in for him.
A slightly ambitious target perhaps, but Ousmane Dembele has been linked with Liverpool in the past and the sale of Coutinho could help them fund the move.
