Former Barcelona defender Seydou Keita is mourning the death of his mother Awa Doumbia who reportedly passed away on August 10, 2017 in Morocco.

Keita mourned his mother saying that she had been a rock that he depended upon. He has also described her as the outstanding supporter of his football career all through.

-The loss of Mum is hard to bear. She is a rock that stood by me and all my siblings. She showed us equal love and affection, and always prayed for each and every one of us, he told Mali Sport.

-Her support and prayers for me right from the beginning of my playing career till the end were invaluable. Her guidance also went a very long way into moulding me into the man I am today. She taught me to love, and to give. I will miss her, but God knows best, the football legend continued.

Keita also played for Lens and Roma as well as Mali and later became captain of the national football team from 2007 until 2013.
