Liverpool were held to a draw in their opening Champions League game by La Liga side Sevilla at Anfield.

Both teams started on a good note creating more chances on both ends. However, in the 5th minute Wissam Ben Yedder struck early to open the scoring. The hosts' mood improved a minute or two later when Mane made a run towards the box and got a shot but it was blocked by Pareja.

In the 21st minute, Liverpool scored a superb team goal when Henderson made a pass to Moreno who then spotted Firmino to tap it in. The second goal came sixteen minutes later when Salah robbed the ball off a Sevilla player on the right before racing down the flank and shooting past the goalkeeper to double the lead for the Red’s.

Few minutes before halftime  Liverpool were awarded a penalty when Pareja clipped Mane and he went down, but Firmino whacked it against the post.

HT: Liverpool 2-1 Sevilla

However, with 18 minutes to play, Sevilla snatched an equaliser with their first shot of the second half. Substitute Luis Muriel fed Correa, who was granted a free path through the Liverpool defence to curl a good finish past Loris Karius from just inside the area.

Klopp immediately introduced Coutinho from the bench to a largely warm reception from the home fans, but the Brazilian could not conjure any late magic to give Liverpool a win.

Indeed, the match finished in tough circumstances for the hosts, who had Gomez sent off for a second yellow card just moments after Muriel missed a great chance to steal all three points.

Liverpool's next Champions League fixture is an away game to Spartak Moscow on 26th September.
