Alvaro Morata helped the defending champions Chelsea register a 4-0 win over Stoke City by grabbing his first hat-trick in Blues jersey.

It was a bright start for Chelsea as the visitors took the lead in the 2nd minute through Morata. Stoke City’s makeshift defence was exposed with the Blues’ first attack as Morata latched on Azpilicueta’s long ball before slotting past Butland.

The Blues extended their lead in the 30th minute through Pedro as the Spaniard pounced on Fletcher’s under-hit pass and raced through before firing an unstoppable curler into the bottom corner.

In the second half Stoke failed to pull a goal back despite threats from Moting and Rodríguez. The home team were denied a penalty after Choupo Moting escaped Moses and Cahill on the left before being brought down by Cahill in the Penalty area but referee Dean waved play on.

Morata scored a superb goal as Johnson gave away possession on halfway and the Spaniard grabbed a solo goal running all the way into the area before putting it past Butland. The Costa’s replacement sealed his hat-trick after receiving a delightful ball from Fabregas over the stationary Stoke defence as Azpi directed the ball with his chest to Morata’s path to poke his third goal.
