NSL: Palos holds wasteful Talanta
Two disallowed goals and a missed penalty summed up FC Talanta's afternoon as they were forced to settle to a barren draw against Palos FC in a National Super League match played on Friday 6 September at Camp Toyoyo Grounds.
Talanta dominated the game but failed to make their dominance as the two teams settled for for point apiece.
The first half was largely balanced with few chances for either side. Brian Okeyo and Erick Kapaito came close for Talanta while John Wanda, and the exciting Alex Waiswa went close for Palos early on.
Talanta top scorer Eric Kapaito thought he had given his side the lead in the 36th minute when he beat Palos keeper Robert Ouma but his celebrations were cut shot by the offside flag.
Kapaito was once again denied by the offside flag when he finished with a lovely acrobatic kick just before the break much to the disappointment of Talanta bench led by coach John Kamau who protested bitterly.
Ten minutes after the restart Talanta were awarded a contentious penalty after Kelvin Wesonga fouled Kapaito, the initial contact appeared to have been outside the area. A penalty was awarded despite Palos players' protest but Brian Okeyo's poorly taken penalty was saved Ouma on Palos goal.
Talanta looked revitalised after the penalty miss as they went all out in search of an opener. They won a series of corners which they failed to convert.
Despite Talanta's late pressure Palos held on to pick a point away from home.
