Watford captain Troy Deeney has been charged by FA with violent conduct after his altercation with Joe Allen during Hornet’s home defeat to Stoke City on Saturday.
Three former professional match officials reviewed the incident on Monday and unanimously agreed the striker should be charged. He has until 8 pm on Tuesday to respond. Deeney grappled with Allen after the midfielder squared up to him in added-time at Vicarage Road, incensed by the striker's failure to return the ball after Stoke had put the ball out for an injury to a Watford player.
Deeney is facing a three-match ban after being charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for 'gouging' the face of Allen. The Hornets' next three games are against Everton, West Ham and Newcastle.
