Vihiga United spank Nairobi City Stars to dislodge Wazito
Vihiga United moved to second in the National Super League (NSL) after beating former KPLside Nairobi City Stars 2-0 in a match staged at the Mumias Sports Complex on Wednesday 8 November.
Harambee Stars call up Bernard Ochieng opened the scores in the first half before captain Patrick Okullo sealed the win after the interval with his 16th goal of the season.
The hosts knew a win would move them to second in the table and put them on course for promotion and showed early intent to win when they took the lead in the 11th minute through Ochieng who rise high to head home a Chris Masinza well delivered corner kick.
They continued dominating proceedings but couldn't extend their lead as the Nairobi based side thwarted their endless raids. Vihiga continued pressing for a second goal after the interval which finally came in the 82nd minute when Okullo picked a loose ball from midfield, dribbled past several players before firing home with City Stars keeper off his line.
The win sees Vihiga dislodge Wazito from the second spot, both teams have 71 points one less than leaders Ushuru but Edward Manoah's side has a superior goal-difference. KCB drops to fourth with 70 points.
