Official! Thika United has retained their Kenya Premier League status after holding Ushuru FC to a 0-0 draw on December 24 at the Narok Stadium.
This is after the first leg ended 2-1 in favour of the Thika based side to give them an advantage into the return leg of the fixture. It was Thika that started early attacks stretching the host defence on two quick occasions that resulted in a free kick two yards from the area but Sammy Meja delivered a rather timid shot that was collected by Obwanda Kennedy.
Unsettled Ushuru were almost punished by Saad Tsuma in the 23rd minute but custodian Obwanda saved the day for them by clutching on the otherwise powerful shot.
Eugene Mukangula would blame himself for failing to beat Obwanda who had come out of his line at half-hour mark as the hosts tried to find feet but Thika were unrelenting on their push.
Obwoga was at it again when he blocked Onwudi Chibueze's goal-bound shot with Ushuru defenders failed to mark the ever-present Nigerian.
Ushuru notable chances came as the first half wore on when Warasone Nelson and Patrick Macharia on target shots failed to trouble Eliud Emase.
Ushuru upped their game from the second half whistle as they asked questions on Thika back line who were caught flat-footed on a number of occasions. Emase stood firm too to thwart any danger directed to his area.
Second half entrant Benson Iregi made his entry felt in the 71st minute when he rounded Fan Ngaira on the left wing and delivered a superb cross into the area which Mukangula should have made an easy work tapping in. He did not.
