SMALL UPDATE: Smalling fit!

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is likely to feature against Everton after returning to Jose Mourinho‘s squad for the clash.

The centre-back has missed United’s last two fixtures after sustaining a groin injury in a 2-2 draw with Leicester City on December 23rd. United have failed to win their last three Premier League matches and face an injury crisis in defence with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young sidelined. However, Smalling’s handed Mourinho a timely boost by returning to fitness for today’s clash against the Toffees and he could start alongside Marcos Rojo.

The 28-year-old was spotted at the club’s hotel last night as they prepare to take on Sam Allardyce’s men at Goodison Park. Phil Jones played on Boxing Day and again on December 30th, meaning he’s likely to be rested today. Former United star Wayne Rooney is expected to start for the Toffees against his old side after recovering from a virus.
