Manchester City is reportedly poised to land Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Frederico Rodrigues Santos, commonly known as Fred.
English news outlet Manchester Evening News has claimed that the league leaders have already started working on a deal with the Ukrainian side that will see the Brazilian switch to the Etihad in the ongoing transfer window.
Fred has established himself as a regular at Donetsk since moving from Brazilian up-and-comers Internacional in 2013 and has continued to impress top European clubs with his impeccable work ethic and undeniable defensive prowess.
It is believed that City boss Pep Guardiola is not only looking to acquire the 24-year-old to further bolster his midfield but also to subsequently succeed veteran midfield maestro Fernandinho, who is set to end his tenure at the Etihad in the near future.
