Ex-Chelsea boss taken to hospital

Former Chelsea and Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was forced to withdraw from the Dakar Rally after being taken to hospital on Wednesday morning.

The injury occurred during the fourth stage of the competition when the 40-year-old's Toyota Hilux hit a dune. Villas-Boas was hurt and taken for treatment, cutting short his participation in the event in Peru.

Overdrive team director Jean-Marc Fortin comments

Andre was taken to the hospital with a back injury. It was unfortunate for Andre, who was making a very positive debut in the Dakar. The Portuguese manager had made a solid debut in the rally before the accident occurred.

Villas-Boas was in 43rd place and impressing during his debut display in the rally when he hit the sand dune. The 40-year-old made his name in management when he took Porto to a treble of the Portuguese league, the cup and the Eu
