Manchester United has reportedly snubbed a petition from boss Jose Mourinho to sign AS Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar.
Scottish news outlet Daily Record has claimed that United chiefs are admittedly unwilling to meet the £90m price tag the French side placed on the midfield maestro, who has also been heavily linked with moves to bitter rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in recent months.
The report further alleges that the English giants have instructed the Special One to explore other alternatives since the club’s board feel that they have already exceeded their transfer budget and can therefore not sign off on another mega purchase.
United spent around £145m last summer to acquire striker Romelu Lukaku, midfielder Nemanja Matic and defender Victor Lindelof from Everton, Chelsea and Benfica respectively. The Red Devils, however, failed to land £50m-rated Inter winger Ivan Perisic and therefore remain in desperate need of a creative playmaker, who analysts feel is the missing piece in Mourinho’s squad.
