Mourinho vows to strengthen

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has vowed the club will try to strengthen ‘every department’ during the summer transfer window.

However, Mourinho is prepared to ‘fight’ to sign a fantastic opportunity this month amid interest in Alexis Sanchez.  United registered their interest in Sanchez despite intense competition from neighbours Manchester City, who are unwilling to meet the Arsenal forward's financial demands and are ready to walk away from a deal.

- Our squad was built not to have new players in January. We build a squad with this idea, with this philosophy that I share with Mr. Woodward and the owners. Normally the investment is to be made in the summer, the balance of the squad is to relate to the summer and unless you have a dramatic situation with a crazy number of injuries, you are pushed for emergency deals, said Mourinho.

Mourinho described Sanchez as a 'phenomenal player' and stressed 'there are some players in world football, if you have the chance to sign them in January, in March or in July, you have to try'.
