Wazito got their KPL stint off to a perfect start after a battling 1-0 victory against visiting SoNy Sugar at Camp Toyoyo on Saturday 3rd February.

A 32nd minute howler from keeper Kevin Omondi saw Frank Ouna side claim the crucial win at home. The host looked more settled in opening quarter and should have taken their lead inside the opening twenty.

First half chances

Pistone Mutamba,  their lead scorer from NSL, had the first opening but could only sting keeper Kevin Omondi Saha's hand from close range.

The lanky attacker ought to have done better six minutes later but watched in dismay as his deft touch off Joe Waithira's delivery trickle narrowly wide off the far post.

Salim Babu's side seemed to settle in late but claimed the best chance for what should have been a first half lead at the hour mark.

Eric Ogwade misjudged a punt up from his opposite number and the new signing goalie was to glad to see Mark Odhiambo spare him an embarrassing howler with a goalline clearance.

Hosts dominance finally paid off two minutes later after Omondi fumbled with a dangerous cross allowing Eric Odhiambo to poke home, the ball going in via deflection off a Millers defender.

Benjamin Mosha went close to restoring parity but failed to direct his header off a  David Simiyu cross just before the breather.

Wazito kicked the half on a struggling note as Sony laid siege forna goal. They should have been back in it but Yema Mwana steered a free header wide in the 70th minute before the referee waved on a potential penalty call against Wazito in the 75th minute.

Omondi sent off

Sony's quest for comeback was dealt a blow after Bernard Omondi got his marching orders with eight minutes to play for late tackle on Waithira.

The call turning crucial in the last stage for Wazito who held out for a first ever KPL win in their first attempt.
