Nakumatt or Thika United; who smiles first?
They were almost chopped off last season and started off the season on the wrong footing. They face off his weekend. They are Nakumatt and Thika United.
Both teams have been wobble at the moment with one winless performance, Nakumatt being thrashed 0-4 in the hands of defending champions Gor Mahia, while Thika United were beaten 0-1 by Kakamega Homeboyz at home.
Promoted last season (2017), Nakumatt who are bottom of the table standings, will come to this match with a mind of winning. Without Kepha Aswani, Musana, Akenga, Meja, Okinda, and Oyoo's services, Mwangi will have to make some changes in his squad especially on the defence, giving David Aswani a chance to feature alongside Noah Abich Donald Mosoti and Eugen Ambulwa.
The attacking former Mathare star Brian Nyakan and Clinton Kisiavuki will have to pull their socks and walk on the tight shoes of last season club's top scorer Aswani.
Kevin Omondi (Gaza) and Kevin Thairu will have to be pacey and take the role on the central midfield to avoid any leakage.
On the other side, Thika United will have to bounce back from last loss and beat the former money bags who too are wounded. The loss of Wilson Anekeya to Homeboyz might be a factor in the match. The Nicholas Muyoti side will surely have to win this if they have to avoid last season’s problems. They remained in the KPL courtesy of a two legged win against Ushuru in the promotion race. Onwude Chibueze's good form will be vital in the game. Eugene Mukangula and Shami Kibwana too will have to work hard to harvest goals for the Thika based side.
Everything is at stake for both sides and we can expect a no-holds barred contest. However, Thika is expected to be more ambitious in attack at Ruaraka Stadium, while Nakumatt will play confidently and try to take the three points home.
