Clinton Omondi's first-half goal gave SoNy Sugar a 1-0 win over Ulinzi in the Kenya Premier League second round at Awendo Stadium on Sunday 11th February.

The game started fairly, with both sides aiming at having an instant impact. Babu's men gained momentum pinning Ulinzi into their own half and managed to get the first goal in the 16th minute when Omondi broke on the right and beat the stopper with a low shot to open the scores. The forward's strike silenced the visitors supporters leaving the the Soldiers with a lot of pressure written all over their faces as they chased for an equalizer.

Missed chances

In the 31st minute Ulinzi, continued to pile pressure and created more chances with their best chance on the first quarter being blown away by Daniel Waweru who fired the ball straight to Kevin Omondi. Few minutes before halftime the Soldiers were awarded another great chance through a corner but it went wide.

HT SoNy Sugar 1-0 Ulinzi

The Soldiers started the second half strongly so as to level matters as they kept pressing on. However, The Millers decided to bring in former Bandari man Tyrone Sissia and Benjamin to try and  pack the bus since Nyaudo men kept on knocking on their back line for a goal in the 57th minute.

In the 60th minute SoNy had the best chance to finish off the game through Benjamin Mosha, who laid a perfect pass to George Abege who played one on one with the keeper but it was unfortunate that he could not score since his shot went wide.

SoNy came close to another chance in the 67th minute when they were awarded a corner but the goal scorer Omondi's shot was cleared by the keeper.

Ulinzi's tactician decided to shuffle his cards in 69th by bringing in Nandwa(B.Onyango out) to help in the attack of the set piece but his effort was in vain as the hosts decided to be merciless in defending the goal post.

Yellow card

Few minutes before full time Cylus Shitote got his first booking of the season for hard tackling on Muhanji from the back. Timothy Odhiambo also got the first yellow card for confronting the referee.

Red Card

SoNy Sugar have been having bad luck when it comes to red cards. The first red card of the season was given to defender Bernard Omondi last weekend in the 1-0 loss against Wazito. This time around sub Yema who came in for for Abege was red carded for a reckless tackle on Kokoyo.

Three minutes before stoppage time, the Soldiers all flocked at the Millers defense in a bid to get an equalizer but it was well defended.
