Sharks handed Oyemba lift

Kariobangi Sharks custodian John Oyemba is back in training after a long injury lay-off that had sidelined him close to two months.

He suffered a back injury in June during the 1-0 win over Posta Rangers and has not featured for the club since.

The club reports that he has started light training, with his return confirmed by the club on their social media handles.

Bwire and Gad

In his absence, William Muluya has used Brian Bwire and Gad Matthews interchangeably between the sticks.

Though still short of match fitness, his return is a big boost to the team as he has been one of their leading lights since they won promotion from the National Super League (NSL) in 2017.

In his debut campaign with the team, he claimed the Golden Glove award at the inaugural Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Kenyan Premier League (KPL) awards gala after amassing 17 clean sheets in the season.

Sharks who have stuttered in recent outings will next take on Mathare United on Sunday 12 August in the slum derby and the fixture will certainly have come a little too early for Oyemba.
