Leopards, Zoo, Tusker and Bandari players in suspension list
AFC Leopards, Zoo FC, Bandari and Tusker will all have to do without dependable players in Round 26 of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) action as Whyvonne Isuza, Ernest Kipkoeach, Nicholas Kipkirui, Fred Nkata and Boniface Muchiri are all suspended for accumulation of yellow cards and red cards in previous rounds of action.
AFC Leopards midfielder Whyvonne Isuza turned from hero to villain in the 2-1 win over Mathare United on Sunday 5 August when he scored a penalty to open the scoring for Ingwe. Isuza was then sent off for a second bookable offence in the 64th minute of the game. Head coach Rodolfo Zapata will miss the services of Isuza for two games, who is currently the club top scorer and will also put a dent of the midfielder’s goal boot ambitions as he sits third on the log with 11 goals.
Sammy Okoth will have to turn elsewhere for a striker with club top scorer Nicholas Kipkirui and Ernest Kipkoach suspended for accumulations of yellow cards and a red card respectively. Nicholas Kipkirui hasn't been on his best behavior this season notching up two red cards and seven yellows thus far. Ernest Kipkoech on the other hand received a red card for a second bookable offence in the 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks for a late tackle on Bolton Omwenga. Both will miss two games, against Nzoia Sugar this weekend and Tusker.
Halting the Gor Mahia 28 unbeaten run came at a cost for coastal Bandari as Fred Nkata was sent off for time wasting as his side were leading 2-1. Nkata received a second yellow card for time wasting with five minutes left on the clock as Gor Mahia threatened to pull level in the dying minutes. Nkata will miss the all-important tie against Tusker on Sunday 12 August but will be back in contention for a starting berth against Nzoia Sugar on Saturday 25 August.
Despite ending the Kakamega Homeboyz game as the match winner with a brace in the 2-0 win Muchiri picked up a yellow card in the game that now takes his season tally to five. Muchiri will miss the game against Bandari and will be dearly missed by head coach Robert Matano as he sits second on the club top scorer’s list with five goals. The former Sony Sugar winger will return in the home tie against Zoo on Saturday 18 August.
