Zapata wary of Nakumatt ahead of weekend clash
AFC Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata admitted that Nakumatt FC will offer stern opposition ahead of their Kenyan Premier League fixture on Sunday 12 August at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Nakumatt are coming off a back of impressive results that saw them pick up a point against reigning league champions Gor Mahia. Nakumatt are also a resurgent side having turned their fortunes since the appointment of American coach Mellis Medo who has steered the club clear of relegation places as they currently sit six points above relegation places. Medo joined the club as the physical trainer before being promoted to head coach status and marked his dug out debut with a 6-1 win over Kakamega Homeboyz.
The last time the two sides met Ingwe lead through a healthy 2-0 margin but Nakumatt fought hard to snatch a point. Zapata acknowledged the hard fighting spirit displayed by The Shoppers. “It’s going to be a tough game because they are fighters but I believe in my boys.”
Leopards are the second highest scoring side in the league having netted 36 times a fact that can be attributed to their attacking style of football, “Everybody knows my coaching philosophy so of course we need to attack when we have the ball and try to fight to get it back when we lose it and attack again.’
Zapata will hope for maximum points this time against Nakumatt a result that will keep them in touch with the chasing pack.
