The Kenya Under 17 national team will begin the CECAFA region of the CAF U17 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against neighbors South Sudan on Tuesday 14 August at the Chamazi Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with the kick off time slated for 2 PM.

Kenya has been drawn in Group B alongside Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Djibouti. After Somali pulled out of the tournament, Group A will now have four teams in the name of Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, and Tanzania. Somali are the reigning champions of the CECAFA U17 Championship that took place in April this year after beating Uganda in the finals.

The qualifiers of the U17 African Cup of Nations were modified early this year, with each of the six zones (Northern Zone, Zone West A, Zone West B, Central Zone, Central East Zone, Southern Zone) playing at their backyard to produce the winners that will contest for the Cup next year.

Tanzania has a direct ticket to the tournament by virtue of being the host nation in the 2019 Afcon U17. The Secretary-General of CECAFA Nicholas Musonye who released the fixtures said they were waiting for the CAF medical team to confirm the MRI tests that were done on all the players.

CAF has decided to undertake the MRI tests in all the zonal qualifiers to avoid age cheating. Those teams that will be found to have engaged in age cheating will be disqualified from the competition.
