Arsenal legend reason for Fred snubbing Man City
Brazilian midfielder Fred was rumored to be close to joining Manchester City at the start of the transfer window but ended up joining Manchester United before the start of the World Cup and has revealed his motivation was all due to Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva.
Fred joined Manchester United from Ukraine outfit Shakhtar Donestk for a fee of £59M becoming Jose Mourinho’s first summer signing and unfortunately become the only marquee signing at the club. Fred noted that Silva convinced him to join the Red half of Manchester, "There were options in England and in Europe. Manchester City, PSG, but I chose United. I spoke to my agent Gilberto Silva, who played for Arsenal. He told me that United was a huge club. I spoke to my family and friends.”
Fred also spoke of his ambitions of lifting the Premier League trophy and added that he received offers from China, “When I said United, I saw their faces. I'm sure that I made the right choice. I want to play in and win the Premier League, the best league in the world. I had a proposal from China too, but I didn't want to go there because I wanted to join United."
Manchester United face Brighton and Hove Albion away on Sunday 19 at the Amex Stadium in an English Premier League fixture.
