AFCON Q: Bafana Bafana aware of Seychelles threat
Stuart Baxter has challenged Bafana Bafana to be mentally strong as they ready to face Seychelles in an AFCON Qualifier.
The 1996 African champions are slated to face the Islanders on Saturday and Tuesday and Baxter is aware of the difficulty his charges would be up against Seychelles. Nigeria managed to pull a comfortable 3-0 win in AFCON matchday 2 meeting but it came after a feisty fight that saw the hosts then fight without lying low.
“We have to concentrate on what we want to do and what we want to be and how good we think we are. And if we concentrate on that and not on this, that and the next thing of hypotheticals – let’s affect what we can affect. We can affect our performance and our mentality. Is that easy? No, it’s not. Have we been good at that in the past? Probably not, but it’s absolutely something we have to deal with on this camp and show it.” Baxter told KickOff.com.
“Nigeria found it was difficult, Libya found it was difficult, but at the end of the 90 minutes they did what was expected, and we’ve got to do the same. Nigeria has some of the guys that are playing in the highest leagues in the world and earning a lot more money than our boys, and yet still they had the same challenge,” the Briton added.
Nigeria will host Libya in the other Group E encounters. Libya will be up against the Super Eagles without their head coach Adel Amrouche who threw in the towel just days before the match. South Africa and Libya played to a 0-0 draw in Durban in match week 2.
