Real Madrid and Wales striker, Gareth Bale, was presented with a golden ball after surpassing Ian Rush’s record to become the country’s all-time leading scorer.

The striker, who is currently nursing an injury, sat on the stands as his nation was thumped 4-1 by Spain in an international friendly at the Millennium Stadium on Thursday.

Prior to the match, Bale was presented with the boot as a symbol of honour for his exploits that has seen him climb the ladder to become the nation’s leading scorer.

He equalled and beat Ian Rush’s long-standing 28-goal record in March with his hat trick for Wales as they thrashed China 6-0 in a China cup semi-final.

He added the 30th last month in Wales’ 4-1 victory over Ireland in their opening match of the UEFA Nations League.

Bale scored his first international goal for his country in October 2006 in a 5-1 defeat to Slovakia. By then, he was just 17.
