Kenyan features as Esbjerg proceed to Danish Cup quarters

Harambee Stars prospect Daniel Anyembe featured for his side, Esbjerg as they earned a ticket to the Danish Cup quarter-finals after a 2-1 extra time win over SønderjyskE on Wednesday 8th November.

Anyembe was deployed in the right wing, away from his preferred right back position. After a dull opening half from two teams where chances were far and wide, Kees Luijckx finally broke the deadlock for SønderjyskEin the 57th minute. Their lead, however, didn’t last long as Adrian Petre pulled Esbjerg level eight minutes later.

Both teams couldn’t be separated in regular time as they required extra time to find a winner. Agustin Agus scored the match winner for Esbjerg in the 99th minute. There was more drama however as Luijckx turned from hero to zero after he was handed his marching orders in the 110th minute for a second bookable offense. Klaus Moesgaard was introduced in place of Anyembe soon after the red card.

Esbjerg will find out their quarterfinals opponents in a draw that is yet to be done.
