Gor Mahia and Mathare United share spoils at Kasarani

Gor Mahia and Mathare United played to an entertaining 1-1 draw in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played at the MISC Kasarani on Sunday afternoon.

Jacques Tuyisenge opened the scoring for Gor Mahia in the 35th minute from the spot after Lawrence Juma was brought down in the box but Mathare responded in similar fashion as Kevin Kimani beat Peter Odhiambo from the spot in the 56th minute to equalize after James Situma was fouled in the box.

Changes

Mathare introduced  Chris Ochieng for the ineffective Clifford Alwanga after the break while on Gor's side Pascal Ochieng came in for the injured Joash Onyango in the 55th minute.

Cliff Nyakeya missed a glorious opportunity to give the Slum Boys the lead in the 59th minute as he failed to a James Kinyanjui clever cross.

Dennis Oliech was introduced in the 66th minute for Nicholas Kipkirui as both teams continued their search for the winning goal. Shafik Batambuze hard shot from outside the box went inches wide as both teams continued their search for goals.

Gor brought in Kenneth Muguna for Lawrence Juma later on while Mathare made a late change bringing in Alphonse Ndonye for Kevin Kimani who was struggling after a career-threatening tackle by Philemon Otieno.

Both teams defended resolutely despite the attacks and held on for a share of spoils.
