Pirates’ Micho reacts to leaky defense ahead of FC Platinum clash

Orlando Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has agreed that his team’s defensive performances are a cause for concern.

The Buccaneers are fresh from conceding two goals in two consecutive matches against Highlands Park and Chippa United.

“We need to look at ourselves and we have three days to fix things before we go to Bulawayo‚” he added of the opening African Champions League Group B game against FC Platinum of Zimbabwe on Saturday,” Sredojevic said.

“In the last two games we have scored six goals‚ which is a good standard‚ but at the same time‚ we have to be aware that conceding four goals is something that is below any standard.

The Serb stresses the need to win games without conceding, with the last clean sheet coming back in six league matches ago in the 0-0 draw with Maritzburg United on 1 December last year.

“This is a concern that we need to address. We want to have clean sheets but we are having a problem and we are not running away from that reality. We will look to address.

“We agreed at the break we would defend by possessing the ball and we would close the gaps between the lines,” Micho concluded.

With the Zimbabwean Premier League ranked much lower than the Absa Premiership, Pirates are expected to ease past the Platinum Boys this weekend, but will they keep a cleansheet?
